Shi Lifeng graduated from the Fine Arts Academy of Hebei Normal University in 1991 and has been working as a full-time artist since 1992. His practice is renowned for its bold symbolism and penetrating social critique, often examining the relationship between individuals and larger societal structures.
In his acclaimed “Walls” series, heavy colors and enclosed spaces evoke the barriers imposed by society. The “Manipulation” series confronts the unseen forces of control and power, while the “Red Star” series intertwines historical narratives with contemporary realities, exploring the tensions within collective consciousness. Other important series include “Dream Homeland”, “Peach Blossom Land”, and his recent “Utopia” works.
The “Utopia” series marks a new depth in Shi’s exploration of the struggles faced by individuals under external pressures and internal conflicts. Through intricate visual effects and spatial constructions, he renders the anxieties of modern existence tangible, creating works that resonate strongly with viewers.
Shi Lifeng’s works have been widely exhibited in China and are held in significant collections across Europe and the United States. His unique visual language—striking reds, bold symbolism, and psychological intensity—has established him as one of China’s important contemporary artists.
