Chen Xionxun

Chen Xiongxun 陈雄勋  was born in Yunnan in 1943.

He is an important practitioner in the field of contemporary Chinese oil painting. In 1961, he was admitted to the oil painting major of Yunnan Academy of Arts and received systematic training [7-8]. His artistic style integrates classical order and rational thinking, and develops a new realist creation system. He pays attention to the contrast of light and color and the expressiveness of brushstrokes. His representative works “Sunset at the Border” and “Red Sun Shines on Tuanjie Village” were selected for the National Art Exhibition and the Yunnan Thematic Art Creation Sequence, respectively [2] [8]. He has participated in important art activities such as the “Walking and Seeing” Nine-Person Oil Painting Exhibition (2011) [5] and the Spring Festival Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition of Yunnan Branch of China Poetry, Calligraphy and Painting Research Association (2020) [6]. In 2024, Kunming Contemporary Art Museum held a special exhibition of his works since 1978 [9].
