Teng Nee Cheong
Teng Nee Cheong is regarded as one of Singapore’s foremost figures in figurative and representational art. A graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, he studied under Georgette Chen and Ng Yat Chuan, whose guidance shaped his artistic foundation.
Influenced by Impressionism and Expressionism, Teng began with still-life and botanical studies before developing a distinctive approach to figurative painting. He created a visual language uniquely his own, combining technical virtuosity with emotional depth. A firm believer in the “school of skill,” he upheld craftsmanship yet emphasized that artistry transcends technique. His broad appreciation ranged from abstraction to realism, reflecting his openness to diverse artistic expressions.
Teng’s contributions were widely recognized, earning accolades such as the Philip Morris ASEAN Art Award and the UOB Painting of the Year. His works are held in major public and private collections, including the Singapore Art Museum, National Gallery Singapore, UOB, DBS, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Neka Museum in Bali.
