Wan Yibin was a renowned Chinese painter and poet born in 1941 in Meishan, Sichuan. He graduated from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and later served as Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Chengdu University. A National First-Class Artist, he was a recipient of the State Council Special Allowance and was recognized as an outstanding contributor to the arts in Sichuan Province.
Wan was celebrated for his expressive Chinese ink figure paintings, particularly his iconic portrayals of Yi minority women, often described in contemporary art circles as the distinctive “Wan style.” His work combined refined brush technique with poetic sensitivity, seamlessly merging traditional literati aesthetics with a modern expressive language.
In addition to painting, Wan Yibin was an accomplished poet and calligrapher. His works were exhibited widely in China and internationally and are held in important institutional collections. Through decades of dedicated practice, Wan established himself as a major figure in contemporary Chinese ink art.
